Uses of Web Animation: Emma

YouTube:

Animation 1:

At the top of the YouTube page the first thing that comes up is an Ad Banner for the Galaxy S6. The purpose of this is to make the advert stand out on the main page so that it will attract more clicks and therefore more provide more revenue to the company. A banner such as this would need to be re-scalable so that it can fit and be used across multiple platforms, thus making it a Vector Graphic, which need to be created using Shockwave Flash. For the company to be able to share the banner on the internet the format would need to be a .SWF file so that it is easily accessible and viewers can click on the ad to learn more information since the ad itself leads to a video about the phone.

Another type of web animation on the YouTube homepage are instructions. These can be found at the top of the page where it tells you to sign in and also to the left of the page which is where you can view your subscriptions list. These are used to help the viewers of the website know where to go for the different purposes that they are using the site for. The file format for the instructions are usually JPEGs or GIFs as they can be created on Photoshop as Raster Graphics.

Entertainment is another web animation and the main purpose of YouTube is to provide entertainment. The many videos that are uploaded to the site can be created using any editor from Final Cut to iMovie and can be compressed as .MOV, MPEG or FLV.

Reunitetheriver:

The purpose of this website was to raise awareness about the amount of water consumption in the USA and overall, the condition of the Colorado river. They did this buy building a parallax HTML5 experience for the desktop. Visitors of the website are able to scroll through the illustrations and infographics along the Colorado river, able to pledge at any time their commitment to helping re-build the river. In order to get the full experience, the site requires you to sign in using facebook which provides you with more knowledge about the wildlife surrounding the river that you are then able to share with your facebook friends.
Met Office:

The Met Office site has a lot of different features that would mostly be created the same way. Most of these features would have been made using Flash and therefore can either be compressed as .FLA or .SWF. Since the website has so many features a lot of them would need to be different sizes but keep the same quality which means that they are Vector Graphics. The News banner would be created so that when you hover over the column it shows all of the latest articles so that people can quickly see what they have missed or which news interests them instead of having to read through a whole list of links. The 'Features' column has been created by using Flash which allows the buttons to work that means you can scroll back and forth through the information.
